First Startup

When you launch PhotoInsight for the first time you’ll be asked you to choose between two options First Startup

Manual scan This option will let you manually choose which folders should be monitored by PhotoInsight. It is best to choose this option if you want to have control on which images you want to see in PhotoInsight.
Pick folders If you choose the manual mode you'll then be able to select which folders or disks you want to include in the monitoring process. Note that if you select a folder, all its subfolders will be included too.
Scan auto You can select the automatic mode, in which case PhotoInsight will scan all available disks. Picking this option can lead to many unexpected images being included. But you can very easily exclude folders directly from the image wall or in the settings.

No worry, if you change your mind, you’ll be able to switch forth and back in the application’s settings

How does it works?

When PhotoInsight monitors a folder it will automatically

  • analyse newly added images and save metadata to the database
  • remove deleted images (even if they were deleted outside of the application)
Windows service
To make the folders monitoring silent, this process is done in background thanks to a Windows service called PhotoInsightService. This service runs even if the application is not started.
